About Rachel
Fireside to film, the power of an artful story can carry the wind, which is why I, Rachel Seekamp, love stories of all kinds. I was born in Colorado to two artists, a jeweler and a potter, and so destined a pencil was placed in my hand as soon as I could hold one. Since then, I have lived immersed in a life expressed artistically through drawing, design, and of course, through story.
As a freelance writer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design, my passions for art and story converge through my Designer Writes Design blog — my space dedicated to proliferating all about design. Since the fall of 2019, it has been my pleasure writing features, including cover features, for Home & Design Magazine in Florida’s luxury market.
My design articles are strictly nonfiction, but I also create spaces for imaginary places through fiction. The science fiction, fantasy, and romance genres are close to my heart, but I genuinely love stories of all kinds and in any form. Call me and tell me a story, and I will listen. Let me read your story, and I will do so carefully. Let me watch your story, and I will be on the edge of my seat. Rewriting is the best part of creation. I love to finesse and reimagine worlds and characters as words on paper and revel as they unfold like film in my mind’s eye.
My authorship spans poetry, magazine features, website copy, newsletters, children’s stories, and a completed full-length manuscript. As an active member of the prestigious National League of American Pen Women, I am a Letters contributor adding my stamp on women in history. Being a freelance writer for the design world supports decades of study and hands-on experience. I am an imaginative listener who enjoys sculpting a person’s raw spoken words into an engaging and flowing story.
I have a story to tell, and I am going to tell it. Do you have a story to tell? I am here to listen and put it into words.
