Tiffany Berland, principal interior designer and owner of Blue Opus Interiors, overflows with giddy excitement every time she envisions a completed space. “Do what you love in the service of others,” delights Berland, who exudes an approachable personality by inspiriting this mantra. Blue Opus Interiors is a full-service design studio, but what does Berland love? Window treatments!

Berland’s clients benefit from her practical and philosophical knowledge garnered from her twenty years of experience in the design industry. But even before all of that, she was drawn to textiles. Berland’s innate creative sense blossoms in the presence of fabrics, colors, and textures, and she brings that passion to every project. Success for Berland means exceeding clients’ expectations and the satisfaction that comes from helping her clients take safer risks with their design choices and budget.

Early in the design process, Berland sets her creativity energies free, focusing on window coverings. “I’m thinking about what style of fabric needs to go on the window. Then I ask myself how it will play with the scale of the space, lead the eye around the room, or tell the story of the client’s favorite color?” expresses Berland. While space planning and furnishings are essential, Berland’s attention to the windows stems from her understanding of light and color. “Light plays a role in how we view color, and what is on the windows influences that variable,” explains Berland. “It’s my job to balance the light, the colors, and the textures, and I do that by orchestrating the light.”

For Berland, this expertise in window treatments isn’t just a skill she has gained but a specialty area of design, one in which she is perpetually expanding her knowledge. Pairing automation with window coverings isn’t on the horizon — it’s already here — and Berland has been at the forefront of this complicated technological advancement, incorporating it into her repertoire.

“I have to hear the clients say the word love. Then I know we’re on the right track,” reveals Berland. “So, when we get to the installation, and everything goes up, the clients are shocked by the impact that drapery can make within a space.” Berland lives her love of textiles through interior design and fulfills her service to her clients by creating spaces they never dreamed possible.
